Hello music and family folks- the update about Dean is a happy one—after one month in the hospital, his “counts” (peripheral cell lines) are beginning to come back up, so he has been cleared for discharge to home.
Dean is coming home tonight!!!
(We got this news on Friday, which prompted a weekend cleaning blitz – THANK YOU to those who spent hours helping to prepare our home for Dean.)
So thank you to all of you who sent out prayers and healing energy… I ask you to keep on sending these Dean’s way, and now (to get very specific) please visualize peaceful co-existence between Dean’s new cord blood cells and his lifetime cells, a return of wholesome appetite, and deep and nourishing sleep during the night for Dean.
There is still a long slow climb ahead… right now Dean is very weak, gets tired all the time, and sometimes feels just plain awful. As he said to me a few days ago, “I feel like I’ve been through a war.”
He is still on “neutropenic precautions” – meaning that he must be extremely careful about all kinds of infection. This means that, at least initially, we will be on a “no visitors” policy. This will help to keep Dean safe as he transitions to a whole new environment.
Dean still has several months (minimum) of recovery ahead – during this time, he’ll be going to the hospital every day for labs, to make sure that all is as it should be.
So this isn’t over- but he is most certainly taking steps in the right direction. As his doctor said yesterday, “clinically, this is the absolute best-case-scenario. I see nothing wrong with this picture.”
!
And yes, there is a benefit TONIGHT (Monday night) for Dean (what amazing timing)-
This is happening at the Dakota Jazz Club, in downtown Minneapolis. For full details, please visit www.dothedean.com (you can read about all of the marvelous benefits being held for Dean on this site- it’s just a very cool site).
So I’m sending out a pre-emptive THANK YOU to the musicians pouring out their music and their love tonight… I’ll be thinking of you with gladness in my heart as I bring Dean home.
Love
Megan Flood
