Friends of Dean Magraw Concert – November 25

Crossings Benefit for Dean Magraw

Thanks to all involved in a grand night of enchantment at Zumbrota’s State Theatre, organized by Crossings Art Center in Zumbrota on Wednesday, November 25, 2009.

The event featured:

Ann Reed, Cam Waters, Claudia Schmidt, Dan Chouinard, Dan Newton, Leslie Ball, Marc Anderson, Peter Mayer, Prudence Johnson, and Vicky Emerson

Dean Magraw’s career spans over thirty years: he’s a guitarist, composer, arranger, and producer. He’s an artist uniquely consistent in his ability to rise to the highest level of musical expression in a dazzling array of contexts.

On May 5, Dean was diagnosed with MDS (Myelodysplastic Syndrome). This basically means that Dean’s bone marrow isn’t functioning properly. In Dean’s case, leukemic blasts (immature cells) are crowding out other cells, especially the white blood cells. Chemotherapy began the following Monday.

When Dean’s concert with Vicky Emerson, scheduled at Crossings on August 28, was cancelled due to his condition, Marie Marvin got to work – with exquisite results.

Ten musicians, co-performers and friends of Dean, donated their talents and assembled at Zumbrota’s State Theatre for an evening of song to raise funds for Dean’s medical expenses in a life-affirming evening of joy in honor of Dean Magraw.
