Dean, wait until you see the video from yesterday. You will plotz! (Yiddish for falling down in disbelief). The amazing music and wrap our arms around Dean spirit was like something I’ve never experienced. We were all filled up by it and it is clearer than ever that your healing is absolutely unstoppable! Love is cascading down and wending it’s way to you from every direction. Drink every drop!

Wow, it’s been a long time. Hope all goes well on the medical front. I remember fondly all the shows we did together at the Cedar.
Keep playing the world needs you!

Dean I was at the event for you at the Cedar eight years ago and it was very groovy.
I was at the Celtic Junction last Sunday and it was even groovier. I’m sure I’m not the only person who wondered if there would be anything remotely similar to the outpouring of respect, affection and love for them if they were in you position.
Do you remember when we were coming up with C.B. handles for ourselves? You were, and are, the “Iron Pickerman”. Come back, good buddy!

Neal & Leandra September 3, 2009 at 3:57 pm

Hi Dean, Sorry we were out of town for the benefit – sounds incredible! Like you. :-) We are holding you in the Light every day and will look forward to playing with you down the road sometime. Lots of love, Neal and Leandra

Hello Dear Dean,

Here in London our thoughts are with you all the time. We have been listening to the lullaby you recorded with my dad over and over- while I was pregnant and now we play it for our little baby boy Landon.
He absolutely loves it!
It is such a heatfelt and haunting tune.
Thank you, thank you.

We’re so glad to hear that you are home and that your recovery is pregressing well.

Sending you love from the depths of our hearts,
Julie, Phil & Landon

Hi Dean,
I’m not sure why anyone would want your bone marrow but I guess it’s nice that you’re transplanting it somewhere.
Laugh hard, smile easy, be well.

Dude! if i had one of those things called ‘computers’, i would gladly send over an ‘electric message’ wishing you well. but in my world of carbon paper and stamps and walnettos and radio shows with abbott and costello, there are not yet ‘computers’. and the snow’s getting pretty deep, isn’t it ?
melanie rosales underbrink sends her love. as do we all.

Loretta Simonet September 28, 2009 at 7:52 pm

Dear Dean, I dreamed about you last night. Why? I don’t think I’ve ever dreamed about you before. You looked really great and happy. I said, “Let’s use words Dean would use.” And of course, what did I say? Music, and mandolin. That’s all I remember. Why mandolin, not guitar? I have no idea. If the dream had continued, more words would have been: hope, energy, magnetism, spirit,
strength, health, love, and maybe beatnik. You are a great, great inspiration Dean, to musicians and to human beings in general. I am sending you deepest healing vibrations. We are all rooting for you. Loretta (Curtis & Loretta, in case you know other Loretta’s)

Peter Wykes October 16, 2009 at 7:15 pm

I recall the days when we were kids, sitting around those old console stereos, when you were in awe of every note you heard and every note you saw someone play. I learned from you to treasure all the music of the world. You connected to the stream of music like no one else I have ever known, and you have been driven and enlightened and delighted by every note that has met your ear. You were born with a guitar in your hands.

Get well, dammit.

–Peter Wykes

John Navarro November 11, 2009 at 6:36 pm

Hey Dean,
It’s been a while since I’ve seen you. Sorry to hear about all this. You are one of the best guitarist I’ve ever played with. I remember one gig, forever ago, you came and subbed at the last minute with Salsa Blanca (wow, 20 years ago?) and as I recall, you had limited experience playing latin music but you covered the piano part amazingly! That is still one of the most impressive performances I have ever witnessed and been a part of. Thank you and many good vibes your way…jn

Judy Anderson November 13, 2009 at 4:32 pm

Hey Dean,
Greetings to our Guitar Man, Dean. As I read these posts I think to myself how many people have enfolded you in their arms during this challenge. You are so loved. As it should be. You have touched so many people with your music and that spunky, sparkling and devilish personality of yours. I look forward to the day I see you again with your guitar in hand.

Margie O'Neill November 14, 2009 at 7:28 am

Dear Dean,
From the first time I heard your music on MPR back when our kids were in 4th grade – “wow! who is this guy!” – to the phenomenal performances we’ve had the privilege hear over all these years, your passion and incredible talent continues to amaze. I send my love, gratitude and prayers to you…A small way to say thank you for the goodness you bring to this world! Wishing universal best to a wonderful and a truly inspiring human being. No one compares to Dean Magraw!

Chris Silver November 20, 2009 at 6:47 pm

Hey Dean,

I think about you often and I’m thrilled to hear that your counts are normal. Who would of thought that we’d become such experts in blood chemistry. A new immune system–gotta love it! I am so happy to hear that you are playing. Amazing thing the soul and the recovery process. I continue to bend notes above the 9th fret for you although I can’t tickle the harmonics like you do! Going to take a lot more practice to do that. Your friend and brother in blood chemistry,

Chris

Susan Esbjornson November 21, 2009 at 5:12 pm

Dean,

Todd just left to set up for the BiL gig at the Cedar tonight. I’m getting ready to go soon along with 10 other friends. I know the boys (and Ruth) will do a bang up job but it won’t be the same without your goofy, splendid, crazy “gee-tar” energy. We will all be sending you love and a million good wishes for a complete recovery. I hope you and Megan will feel all the support we’re gonna send your way. Take care Dean – I wanna see you back in our living room jammin’ again really soon.

Love Sue

karen November 23, 2009 at 9:45 am

Dear Dean,
The other night at the Cedar, I witnessed beauty. It was stunning.
Floored by a drop in blood sugar, I was resting against the wall, my legs splayed out before me guzzling o.j. Claire was on one knee beside me. A man and woman approached, went to their knees and asked after you. While speaking of you, Claire’s face softened with an incredible gentleness and her eyes filled with a light I seldom witness. It was as if some great and gentle hand reached out from the universe and lay Grace apon her head. It was as if that Grace seeped into her being and found her heart and soul so full of love, there was nowhere to settle but in the air surrounding her. Her eyes, lit from within, released Grace into the room. Everyone there, including myself took some home with them. And if they sent a prayer out for you that night, as I did, you were infused with the healing power that comes from love, that comes from Grace. I hope you felt it.
Peace and healing,
kc

Stew Roberts February 9, 2010 at 1:28 pm

Dean
I just found out about what you have been going through lately. Karla and I are thinking of you, and will be checking the blog to see how you are doing.

I am still playing guitar but have switched for the most part from Bluegrass to Jazz. I still cherish the times we had with the Ritz Brothers.

Karla and I will be in Minneapolis for a conference in July. We were hoping to be able to catch one of your performances. I hope you will be back to it by then. I have seen a few of your videos on the web but it has been too long since I have had the chance to see you in person.

Get well and I hope to see you in July.

Stew

The way you passionately and genuinely live your life has touched many people Big D. I have learned so much from you and I truly appreciate all that you have done for me, I could not ask for anything more. However, I am sorry to say, I am going to need a lot more of your wisdom and this may entail some trips with you across the world, if that is cool with you… Keep doing what you need to do and continue to be STRONG. Be aware of small victories and most importantly, keep being that dude they call Creamo. Love you with all my heart, you the man, & LET IT BE! -Double “D”

Last night it was when the moon was shining bright as the sun. Often it’s during a break in the day. Collective love with Altan was sent this last Sunday night from the stage at the Cedar. Janet
